Dante in the vineyard
Sunday, October 30th, in San Michele vineyard Professor Giorgio Battistella recited wine, vineyards, and Venice-related verses from the Divine Comedy.
The meeting ended with the oral performance of the poem “San Martino” by Giosuè Carducci and the famous verses on Venice Arsenale mentioned in the Divina Commedia by the great Dante (L’arzanà de’ Veniziani).
In the end, Prof. Battistella pointed out to us that wine is mentioned several times in Purgatory and Paradise and never in Hell because it was considered a beneficial drink reserved for the high spirits.
